James Blake - A Case of You
I haven’t tired of this since he covered it on Zane Lowe’s show; finally there’s a video and it’s beautiful.

Constantines + Feist - Islands In The Stream
Don’t get me wrong, I love Dolly, but doesn’t the line you do something to me that I can’t explain become suddenly affecting in this cover? A lot of versions have embraced the cheesiness, but Feist and the Constantines strip it down, everything is nothing if you’ve not no one. It makes you appreciate the sweetness of the lyrics, they transcend the genre. Sail away with me to another world, and we rely on each other, uh-uh.
Ryan Adams - Wonderwall
Sometimes, cover versions are glorified karaoke. Sometimes, they bring out the best parts of a song, and add a new depth to it. I have a friend who’s been obsessed with Ryan Adams as long as I’ve known her, but it’s only after living with her this year that I’ve bothered to listen to anything other than this cover; I still love it after all the years. The original is eclipsed, and yet listening back to Oasis’s version after Ryan’s, you hear new things. Ryan Adams sings a haunted, hungry song, lacking in its previous arrogance, totally alien to its first bearing.
You’re gonna be the one that saves me?
