Laura Marling has released a website with animation for the poem (not the song) ‘The Beast’ which accompanied the special edition version of ACIDK (I’m not sure if it came with the standard CD?). I’m sometimes wary of artists branching out to different forms because it can be a little false, but Marling’s lyrics are developing a more poetic nature, and ‘The Beast’ wouldn’t work as a song; it also works as a companion to the album, encompassing themes that run throughout the songs and binding them together. The illustrations, by the Shynola collective, emphasise the poem’s dark imagery.
I’m glad you do not give yourself to me.
